Written steps (text version of this video)

This walkthrough shows how to choose when approved readers get access to your book, set how long they can download it, see the email, book page and personal copy a reader receives, issue access manually, schedule delivery and revoke access.

  1. Check who has access.

In Participants, the Delivery column shows whose access is issued.

  2. Choose when copies are sent.

In Settings, under Approval and delivery, choose Right after approval, Scheduled or Manual for Copy delivery, then select Save.

  3. Set how long readers can download.

Enter Access length (days), or leave it blank for no time limit. With Scheduled, choose Access until, the last day readers can download.

  4. Each reader gets a personal copy.

Hamsterra prepares a personal copy with the reader's name and a Copy ID. Your original file is never sent.

  5. The reader gets an email.

Once access is open and the copy is ready, the reader is emailed a link to their book page.

  6. The reader downloads the book.

The reader selects Download EPUB on their book page. The page reminds them the copy is personal and links to help for sending an EPUB to a Kindle.

  7. Check the copy notice.

The copy notice shows the reader's name and the Copy ID. A Copy ID identifies a copy; it does not prove who shared it.

  8. Issue access manually.

With Manual delivery, approve the reader, then select Issue access on their card, or tick several readers in Participants and select Issue access to selected.

  9. Schedule delivery.

With Scheduled delivery, set a Delivery date. Readers you approve before then get access on that date; readers approved later get access straight away, while the access window is still open.

  10. Revoke access.

Select Revoke access on the reader's card. Copies already downloaded can't be taken back. Select Issue access to restore it under your current Copy delivery setting.

  11. Next: emails and reminders.

Set up the emails and reminders your readers receive.

Check you’re done

  • Your Copy delivery setting is saved.
  • Your access length or Access until date is saved, if you chose a limit.
  • The readers you have issued access to show the expected delivery status in Participants.

Common questions

What happens with Manual delivery?

Approving a reader does not issue access. Select Issue access on their card when you are ready; the reader is emailed once their copy is ready.

Can I leave the download period unlimited?

Yes. Leave Access length (days) blank for no time limit.

Can I take back a downloaded copy?

No. Revoke access stops further downloads, but copies already downloaded cannot be taken back. The reader’s decision stays unchanged.
